Palazzo Tolomei is a good example of a private residence of the second half of the 13th century and is characterised by two orders of elaborate double-lighted windows overlooking a massive wide portal in the center.
The sad fortunes of Pia de’ Tolomei, whose family resided here, are celebrated in Dante’s Divine Comedy, in the 5th canto of Purgatory.
In front of this palazzo, there is the elegant neoclassical façade of San Cristoforo.
